The Mining Tax row

THE MINING TAX is still leading national news with the BHP chief saying he can see no end to the row. http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/business/bhp-chief-sees-no-end-to-tax-row-20100610-y0j2.html

The Greens believe that Australia's rich mineral resources and the wealth they generate should be shared by all Australians, and therefore support the government in the proposed mining tax. However The Greens believe that the large section of Australians who will benefit from it are not getting the right message. LET THE 3RD FORCE BE WITH YOU: More discussion on the rise of Greens support and what that could potentially mean for the election and for government. This time at the ABC. http://www.abc.net.au/unleashed/stories/s2922864.htm

You may wish to post a comment on this story, or write another blog or Letter to the Editor. Some discussion points for your on this issue:

* The time has come for the Australian Greens to be included in leaders’ debates, to give all Australians the opportunity to hear the Greens alternative vision for Australia for themselves.

* Recent poll figures reflect not only disappointment with major parties, but the hope that the Greens represent for Australian politics.

* Voters are coming to the Greens because of the policies and solutions put forward and the proven record of the five Greens Senators in the federal Parliament.

* The Greens offer a constructive and responsible alternative to the old parties and a commitment to outcomes to the community, not opposition for opposition’s sake.

* For example the Greens will introduce new legislation to regulate government advertising spending when Parliament resumes next week. The Greens proposal for a $23 per tonne carbon tax is now the only genuine option for a price on greenhouse pollution by a federal party. On a whole range of issues, the Greens are offering innovative, positive policy.

* The Greens continue to grow, and the old parties are well and truly on notice.
